2-Channel Video Installation, Reclaimed Wood, Spray Paint, TV Monitors. 2016. 5:40 excerpt from 2.5 hour video loop.
This piece was created in response to the creation of Katahdin Woods & Waters National Monument which was designated by executive order by Barack Obama on August 24, 2016. The monument was widely supported by out of state liberals and conservationists, but was less popular among those living in the communities surrounding the new monument.
This piece explores the controversies associated with conservation, tourism, land use, and recreation. The audio is taken from a public meeting three months before the monument was declared. At the meeting Maine residents shared stories and opinions related to the monument with Maine Senator Angus King and National Park Service Director Johnathan Jarvis.
